Roy Huskinson started HTC Specialised Tooling in 1981 after more than fifteen years in the high pressure hydraulics industry. The company was called The Hydraulic Tool Company until November 2001 when the name was changed to HTC Specialised Tooling Ltd. The new name better reflects the growing range of new and hire equipment that’s available. Today the company still remains in the family with Roy’s son Robb at the helm as Managing Director.

 
     
 

“Robb, you’ve been in business a few years now, what is it that sets you apart from the rest?”

 
  In a nutshell it’s our ability to problem solve, complimented by our backup & service. With our expanded range we believe we can offer more solutions under one roof than any one else in the country - and people like the one stop shop philosophy – it makes life easy. The other thing is experience. Because we’ve been doing this for more than twenty five years we know the equipment pretty well – that’s the advantage of hiring & servicing the same gear you sell. When we give advice its generally based on our own experience.  This helps us ensure we spec in the right gear for each application which in turn saves our customers a lot of time & money, as they get the right tool for the job first time.

Like any good company we recognize the importance of employing good staff & therefore invest a lot of time into staff training & development. We do this to ensure our customer service level is high & our clients get the best solution for their problem - not the best solution for our bottom line.  So it’s about being honest. The other thing is the back up & service. We have a large workshop & spares department as we believe standing behind everything we sell is a key part of our business. Our customers like this as they get looked after long after the sale & don’t have to retire gear before its service life is finished. Product quality is also key to us–as you know we hire the same tools we sell so we don’t sell low quality equipment because it just doesn’t last. For our customers who purchase from us this means they get equipment that’s stands up to the rigors of the hire industry which is a pretty good test of quality. Who else in this industry puts their money where their mouth is and hires the same gear they sell?. The hire side of our business also gives us a lot of application experience & doing our own servicing means we really understand how things work. This is great if you trying to do something unusual – chances are we’ve done it before!.

Roy started the business on the “customer is king” philosophy. As we grow and get more staff, we aim to maintain the same level of service. That’s why we’ve put in place a bonus system, which shares the rewards of our success with our staff. We have also developed a detailed customer feedback system to keep us focused on the customer, as well as move and change with the times.
