HTC are pleased to represent York Machine Tools for their range of Line Boring and Welding Machines.
A range of machines are available to machine bores from as small as 38mm up to1.6 meters.
Originally developed for use in the Canadian wilderness the most common model, the 4-14ET is small, light weight yet extremely powerful handling bores up to 200mm with ease.
The units can be purchased with a choice of motor drives (electric or hydraulic), a choice of auto or manual feed and a full range of boring bars are available.
The York exclusive Calibration wrench makes tooling adjustment almost fool proof to ensure the correct depth of cut every time.
Standard carbide tips means the operator need not be a machinist; it can be used by any competent Trades person with minimal training.
York also offer an unique off set drive (not offered by any other manufacturer) which allows the machine to be used in constricted areas. The system allows 30 degrees off set of the drive unit to the boring bar.
With the Boring system York offer several bore welders for the continuous welding of the bore.
The Smart weld 830 allows auto welding with the operator able to set feed speed, skip (for key ways) or segment (for building up one side of the bore ) . All the above using your existing Mig welder.

Talking Torque with HTC Specialised Tooling (Read More...)
Most of us have used a torque wrench at one time or another for tightening fasteners, for some of us it's an everyday thing. Whether on a road vehicle or a multi million dollar piece of machinery there is an ever-present risk of incorrectly tightened fasteners causing damage, downtime or most serious of all, injury.
For over 27 years HTC Specialised Tooling has been involved in overcoming many high force engineering challenges. In the past five years we have seen our calibration department grow from small beginnings to a nationwide onsite service, in particular helping companies evolve systems that limit their exposure to risk.
Our experiences over the years have helped formulate the following key principles. We use these for the creation and development of torque systems and procedures for our customers:
Training: Correct bolting procedures should be established and regulated at management level with floor staff given practical training. In many cases failures occur when there are no clearly defined (documented and visable) procedures, staff members miss a step, or tools have not been checked for "wear and tear" and calibrated on a regular basis.
Calibration: In most New Zealand industries, local law and foreign auditing bodies are increasingly enforcing testing and calibration of equipment. Manufacturers of torque tools generally recommend annual calibrations however in high use situations we may suggest shorter service/recalibration intervals.
Traceability: It is imperative that each tool has a unique serial number and that calibration certificates are kept for 3-5 years.
Care: Torque wrenches are "measuring devices" and need to be cared for accordingly. Nine times out of ten wrenches become inaccurate due to lack of care. Good quality torque tools are expensive so it makes good business sense to keep them in service for as long as possible.

HTC Specialised Tooling has recently been appointed the New Zealand sales, repair, and calibration agent for RAD Torque Systems. RAD Manufactures bolting equipment that makes light work of tough situations.
RAD has been trading for 19 years and has developed a strong place in the global torque market - developing powered torque wrenches and a large range of universal and specialised reaction arms. The reaction arms were developed for working on earth moving and mining machinery where downtime is a critical issue.
RAD has three main product lines, pneumatic torque wrenches are their star product with units available up to 8500ft lbs, mains powered units are also available up to 6000ft lb, and hand held battery tools up to 1300ft lb. Use of high quality components contributes to the tools having a repeatability of +/-2%.
Over the years RAD has also developed boxed kits which include an extension and various reaction arms, these kits are designed to deal with 99% of bolting applications without the need for additional accessories.
Although there is an extensive range of reaction arms available, RAD will design and build for unique applications.
In order to keep tools functioning correctly periodic maintenance should be undertaken. The HTC Calibration Department has been factory trained to carry out this work and carries a line of common spare parts to ensure as fast a turn around as possible. As with any torque equipment whether manual or powered, calibration should take place at minimum once per year, HTC has the ability to measure torque output up to 33,000Nm.
RAD tools are available for purchase or hire from HTC.

Powered torque systems are designed to exert high levels of controlled torque onto fasteners to achieve fast, accurate, and consistent tightening of connections. Nowadays powered systems come in many different forms including battery, pneumatic, electric and hydraulically powered
Hydraulic torque wrenches are the most common form on the market and are fast replacing flogging hammers and manually powered torque multipliers as people realize the benefits of using this type of equipment. Hydraulic wrenches are very powerful producing more than 100,000 Newton Meters of force. These torque wrenches are very compact and can fit almost any situation and with accuracy of + - 5% they provide a very fast accurate torque figure that is easily repeatable. For many contractors torquing or undoing seized fasteners is something that's required on an infrequent basis so investing in a system is hard to justify. In these cases hiring a torque wrench system is a great way to access the benefits without having money tied up in equipment that's infrequently required.
HTC also offers a 24/7 call out service which means tools are always available.
HTC offers the largest range of powered torque systems for sale and hire in New Zealand. Their range includes hydraulic wrenches, electric, manual and air powered torque multipliers plus a full range of sockets and low profile cassette heads. HTC also hire a comprehensive range of click style torque wrenches all of which have a current calibration certificate and are checked for calibration after every hire. A same day delivery and collection service is available in Auckland and Hamilton. For customers outside of these areas tools can be freighted overnight to any main centre in NZ and time spent in transit is not normally charged.

HTC cuts the ribbon with the Jaws of Life ! (Read More...)
On the 30th April, Roy Huskinson, company founder, used a Jaws of Life cutter to cut the ribbon and formally open HTC's Christchurch branch in Epsom Road, Sockburn (just off the Sockburn roundabout).
The new branch already holds a large stock of specialised tools for hire & purchase as well as offering Parts, Calibration and onsite Compression tool testing from its mobile unit now also based in Christchurch..
Daniel Brice, Branch Manger returns to Christchurch after working for HTC in Auckland for the last 3 years and his able assistant Daniel Jordan (DJ) also returns home after a few years in the calibration department. Together with John Boyd, who's been based in the South Island since 2005, the team hopes to grow the business by providing a greater level of locally focused service.
Managing Director Robb Huskinson says " One of the main benefits this new branch bring is the availability of equipment - hire and sales. Often with our type of gear people need it fast when things haven't gone exactly to plan so we can now help solve problems on a more local basis, quicker and without large courier costs. We are really excited to be in Christchurch and are looking forward to being able to contribute on a greater level to the local economy"
